ExpatAI is an AI assistant integrated into HelpAnExpat communities. It is not a human user, and it does not replace legal, tax, medical, or professional advice in any way.
Sparks useful conversations by asking questions, requesting missing details, and encouraging members to share concrete experiences about housing, work, bureaucracy, culture, and everyday expat life.
Summarises practical information that emerges from discussions, so that newcomers can find it easily.
Suggests relevant categories and tags for new posts, to keep content well organised.
Performs a first automated check on published text to identify obvious spam, malicious links, sensitive personal data (third-party phone numbers, documents, private screenshots) and content that clearly breaches the Community Guidelines.
Flags borderline, complex, or ambiguous cases to human moderators for review.
It does not ban users, close accounts, or take final disciplinary decisions: those remain with human moderators.
It does not read private direct messages between users.
It does not assess the truthfulness or accuracy of information shared by members.
It does not replace professional advice of any kind.
Every action ExpatAI takes on your content (removal, hiding, edit request) comes with an explicit reason and a reference to the rule applied.
You always have the right to request human review of any decision by writing to Staff.
Automated comments by ExpatAI are always visually identified as such (an "AI" badge) and signed with its name.
ExpatAI is a tool, not a judge. It can misinterpret a text, fail to recognise irony or cultural references, or misjudge ambiguous contexts. For this reason, its more impactful actions (suspension, removal of serious content) always remain subject to human review.
